We are currently in the first decade of cultivation at the Bunbury Glasshouse. Our specimens, carefully nurtured using techniques inspired by Cheshire gardening and the principles of Niwaki, will be available for private commission in 2040.
The Bunbury Glasshouse is a specialist Niwaki nursery located in Tarporley, Cheshire, dedicated to cultivating Japanese garden trees and unique specimen plants for long-term development and private commissions.
At our nursery, we grow trees from young plants and seeds, carefully training them over many years through techniques rooted in traditional Japanese Niwaki and Cheshire gardening practices. Our specialty lies in developing cloud-pruned trees, specimen pines, Japanese maples, and other distinctive garden trees, with each specimen meticulously selected and shaped to reflect its natural form.
Currently, we are in the early stages of cultivation. Our first mature specimens, crafted through our passion for Niwaki, will be available for private commission starting in 2040, providing clients the opportunity to acquire individually developed trees that have spent over a decade growing and being shaped right here in Cheshire.
True Niwaki cannot be manufactured; it must be grown, observed, and shaped over time.
At the Bunbury Glasshouse, located in the heart of Cheshire gardening, we believe that the true character of a garden tree emerges from the relationship between the tree, the gardener, and the changing seasons. Our specimens are not rushed to market with predefined shapes; they are carefully cultivated over many years, allowing the trunks to mature and each tree's unique character to develop.
Our goal is to create Japanese-inspired garden trees and cloud-pruned specimens that possess the presence and maturity of established landscape trees, all nurtured right here in Cheshire for gardens across the UK.
We do not gauge our progress merely by seasons. Instead, we measure it through the slow architecture of wood, branch, and cloud.
